The Sierpinski Triangle is a common fractal shape created by replacing a single triangle with three smaller copies of itself with their vertices touching. Repeating this process many times creates intricate triangular detail. After years of digital fractal creation, Matt yearned for a more intimate relationship with the fractal shapes he creates. So he set out to draw the Sierpinski Triangle to a depth of 7, entirely by hand. This means drawing one tiny triangle at a time, over and over again, but in just the right spot so that all the triangles align perfectly. In total, he drew 2,187 triangles in 15 hours over the course of 5 days. This piece was created with dedication and devotion in mind - the idea that many small monotonous actions can accumulate to become something larger and more beautiful. Each triangle represents a moment in time. If we focus on aligning our moments with a greater form, what we make is something truly unique and full of complexity.
